New employment

I am actively looking for a new job. Fortunately, I recently updated my resume and have two interviews scheduled. It's rough out there! Changes in administration bring about changes in philosophy and policy. I'm not so down with all the changes. But I am trying to be proactive in finding something that's a good fit for me with people I like working for and with. I will however, miss my friends and current co-workers very much. But many of them are now forever friends.

I hate when I say things that I regret, especially to the people I love. The intention is constructive criticism, but sometimes it's not received in the spirit in which it was given. It's been nearly 24 hours and it's about time for me to apologize and hopefully, I'll be forgiven.

My prayers are with my parents as they travel this weekend. I hope they have the time of their lives.

Tired now. Bed time.

Websites

I have recently jumped headfirst into the web design arena. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing, but there is an element of instant gratification when you complete a page and it actually looks pretty good. I'm working on a website for the Des Moines Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, one for Mells Industries, and I recently complete one for Franklin's Command Results.  I've even learned how to create hyperlinks to other website and email addresses. I don't know how to do fancy things like moving graphics, banners, and video that plays when the site opens.

Hopefully I can get paid for some of these endeavors. They take a lot of time to create and more mental energy to create decent, meaningful content. I'm big on content. I think it's what drives good websites. The next thing would be to post a blog. This is the test run. We have some big initiatives on the horizon and blogging could be an excellent way to spread the word about it and show other chapters how easy it is. However, someone needs to be committed to updating it regularly.

That's all for now.

Getting Ready for Another Monday

I'm trying to decide what to have for dinner. It seems like we got up from brunch table a few minutes ago. But of course, Sam had basketball practice and now is asking what's for dinner. Go figure.

Friday Night!

I love Friday nights! I got home from work after 5:15 p.m. Franklin had dinner in the oven. I talked with my aunt in Chicago and then had dinner with the family. I talked with a few friends, tried to help Franklin send out an email and read the news on the internet. All the while enjoying a couple of glasses of pinot noir. I'm tired. It's been a long week. But I love Friday nights because I can stay up past 10:00 p.m. and sleep until I wake up. That only happens once a week. On Friday nights/Saturday mornings. The kids are in bed. The house is quiet. I love my MacBook Pro laptop computer. All is good. Have a WONDERFUL and relaxing weekend. Go Hawkeyes and Cyclones! Monday is right around the corner. And Happy Birthday to my good friend Harrison Loder who is ONE year old today!

XOXO

I love productivity

It has been a wonderfully productive weekend. I helped FG with his website and some flyers. I helped friends with job searches and forwarded jobs I think they'd be perfect for. We supported some friends' young son in his football game. We worshipped, we ate, prayed and tried to get ready for a new week. Feeling hopeful and grateful for my blessings.

You know what has been most liberating? No television and limited computer. It really allows your brain the freedom to reflect and think new thoughts without the inside influence of news of the day, other people's opinions and just plain negativity.

Don't know what we're going to with kids who have a day off tomorrow. They may spend time with Grandma and Grandpa. Maybe they'll go over to their cousins. With the beautiful weather, I definitely hope they spend a lot of time outdoors. The sunshine and fresh air are so invigorating!

I need to remove my contact lenses and get ready for bed. Another busy week, but again, I can't think of a week in the last two years that hasn't been busy. God bless!

Rest

Have you ever worked, wifed, mothered, volunteered, studied, worshipped and given so much of yourself that there isn't any of you left over for you? Well, that's where I am so I am taking a couple of days off. I feel utterly and completely depleted emotionally and physically. I could sleep for about three weeks straight. I also hate that our society heaps praise on women who do it all, and never take time for themselves. I think that's plain dumb. And now when I need to take time for my own sanity, I'm taking it. I'm grateful for a boss that agrees that I will be a better employee, wife, mother and community member when my emotional tank is full.

Things are especially tough for women whose husbands are unemployed or underemployed. More on that later when I have time and energy to address it. I'm going to take a nap now!

Getting ready for Monday

I'm sitting at home, deciding on another glass of pinot noir. Waiting for Sports Soundoff to come on. It's been a long few weeks. I feel pretty depleted. Need to recharge my battery. I'll be anxious to see if Keith uses my look alike submission of my brother Dave and actor Boris Kodjoe. They look so much alike!

Went to a basketball meeting for Samantha tonight. I think she's pretty excited, but there are two conditions for her to practice: completed homework and finished chores. We'll have to see what happens. I love her coach, Jim Nahas, because he teaches the kids the fundamentals of the game, but keeps it fun. Sam has been practicing her dribbling and ball handling skills. It should be a fun basketball season.

Busy week, with dentist, doctor, and hair appointments for the kids. Also big kickoff for the 100 years 100% fire marshal smoke detector campaign. Hopefully the rest of the week will be calm. I really need calm. Also will be glad for SB to return. He's been gone for two weeks and I missed him! Work is always better when he's there.

Getting tired. Watching the weather. Need to figure what I'm wearing tomorrow. Would love to touch base with SnG and I'm glad she's back too.

Lots of anxiety in state government as the election approaches. More on that later.
